1 Pushpagiri Hills Sanctuary - Trek

Pushpagiri is the highest peak in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Situated at an altitude of 5626 feet, Pushpagiri is the 6th highest peak in Karnataka and also 2nd highest peak in Coorg after Thadiyandamol. The Harangi River originates from the top of this hill. Covered by lush green forests, valleys, and hills, the area is perfect for hiking expeditions and it is one of the best places for trekking. 
 


2 Chelavara falls

Chelvara Falls is a natural waterfall formed by small stream, a tributary of Kaveri River. It drops from a height of about 150 feet into a big pool. The pool has a depth of more than 50 feet. The waterfall is locally known as Embepare, which means tortoise in local Kodava language. The rock over which the water cascades is shaped like a tortoise and hence the name embepare.
 


3 Nalknad palace - kakkabe

At a distance of 35 km from Madikeri, Nalaknad or Nalknad Palace is situated near Kakkabe in Kodagu district of Karnataka. Located at the bottom of Thadiyandamol Peak, the highest mountain of Coorg, is one of the best heritage places to visit in Coorg. Also called as Naalnaad Aremane, the Nalaknad Palace was built by Kodava king Dodda Veerarajendra in 1792 CE after escaping from the attack of Tippu Sultan during his invasion of Coorg. 
 


4 Harangi dam

At a distance of 34 Kms from Madikeri & 10 Kms from Kushalnagar, Harangi Dam is built against a small stream, a tributary of river Cauvery at Hadgur village. It is one of the popular sightseeing places in Coorg. The backwaters are spread across several acres with small islands in the middle and thick forest on the banks. There is a small garden near the dam and a stone statue of Goddess Cauvery. Just around the reservoir there is Chamundeshwari Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi.
 


5 Valanoor

Valanoor is a popular fishing destination on the backwaters of Cauvery and is one of the most popular angling sites in Karnataka. The Kaveri River is shallow and slow moving at many places and that helps in the growth of abundant aquatic life in the water. It is a popular place among angling enthusiasts as a wide variety of fish are available here including golden mahaseer and maral which are found in plenty. Angling at Valanoor is one of the top things to do in Coorg and it draws fishing lovers from all over Karnataka.
 


6 Brahmagiri hills Sanctuary - Trek

Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1974. Situated at an altitude of 5357 feet, the sanctuary is spread across 181 Sq. km. The sanctuary derives its name from the highest point, the Brahmagiri Peak, which lies at an altitude of about 1607 m. The vegetation in the low-lying areas is predominantly evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, while shola grasslands cover the higher altitudes. The undulating terrain is dotted with several steep valleys and hillocks.
 


7 Madikeri fort

Madikeri Fort was first built by Mudduraja, the then king of Coorg, in the last quarter of the 17th century AD. The king had also constructed a mud palace inside the fort premises. The fort was built as a mud structure and was rebuilt in stone by Tipu Sultan in 1781 AD and named the site as Jaffarabad. In 1790 AD, Dodda Veerarajendra took control of the fort. The fort faced further changes and renovations during the period 1812 - 1814 AD when it came under the rule of Lingarajendra Wodeyar II. In 1834 AD the fort was captured by the British.
 


8 Bhagamandala

At a distance of 9 km from Talacauvery and 36 km from Madikeri, Bhagamandala is a sacred place situated in Coorg district of Karnataka. Also known as Bhagundeshwara Kshetra, Bhagamandala is one of the famous pilgrimage sites in Karnataka and also one of the top places to experince Coorg Tourism. Bhagamandala is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Cauvery and the Kannike. A third river, the Sujyothi is said to join from underground. It is well known as Triveni Sangama and also considered as Dakshina Kashi. 
 


9 Omkareswara temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Omkareshwara Temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820 CE. The Shivalinga installed inside the temple is believed to be brought from Kashi. According to the legend, the king had killed a pious Brahmin to fulfill his political ambitions. However, the king started to have nightmares for his cruel deed. In order to free himself from the nightmares, the King sought the advice of a few wise men and they told the king to build a temple of Lord Shiva to regain his mental peace. The king followed their advice and brought a Shiva lingam from the holy town of Kashi and installed it at a newly constructed temple.
 


10 Raja's seat

The Raja's Seat, which means the Seat of Kings, is a brick and mortar structure with four pillars connected by arches. It is built on a high elevation with a commanding view of the cliffs and valleys. This lovely spot was once a favorite place of recreation for the King of Coorg. He used to spend time with his queen in the garden and watching the setting sun. The spot offers a breathtaking view of towering hills, green valleys studded with paddy fields. It is fascinating to watch the road to Mangalore like a curved ribbon lying in the valley.
 


11 Iruppu Waterfall

Iruppu Falls is a magnificent waterfalls situated in Brahmagiri Hills between Srimangala & Kutta in Coorg district f Karnataka State, bordering the Wayanad district of Kerala. It is one of the best waterfalls in Karnataka and also one of the well-known Coorg tourist places. It can be visited as part of 2 day trip from Bangalore. Iruppu Falls is another popular attraction not to miss in Wayanad tour packages. It is formed by Lakshmana Tirtha, a stream originated in Brahmagiri Peaks and joins Kaveri River. According to the legend, Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana passed along the Brahmagiri range in search of Sita.
